    Frequently Asked Questions On Innovation Enterprise Institutions (IEIs)

    1.         What are Innovative Enterprise Institutions (IEIs)?
    They are Institutions specializing in training and preparing Nigerians to acquire practical and innovative skills needed to compete globally.
    They are sector specialized in providing a credible, attractive & respected alternative to University Education.
    IEIs will educate students in post senior secondary to think creatively and transform knowledge through technological processes into wealth and a broader economic base.
    IEIs would operate on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, where the private sector would be the drivers and promoters of the Institutions and the FME would act as the regulator.

    5.         What is the minimum entry requirement?
    IEIs will require a minimum of 5 credits at S.S.C.E level, with Maths and English as compulsory subjects.

    8.         What will the tuition fees be like?
    Each Institution will charge reasonable and affordable tuition fees.

    9.         What are my chances of being employed after graduation from IEIs?

    IEIs will have very strong industry links and as such greatly increase the chances of employment of graduates.
    10.       Will there be national spread in admission criteria?
    Yes, admission criteria will ensure that national spread in admissions is maintained and protected in line with the core purpose of the Institutions. Admissions criteria and financial arrangements will ensure that nobody is excluded on the basis of financial incapacity.

    11.       What is a Sector Skills Management Boards (SSMB)?    

    They are Independent employer-led Boards licensed by the Federal Ministry of Education that will provide strategic leadership and targeted action to meet current and emerging skills and productivity needs in each sector covered by the Institutions.

    14.       Who can set up Innovation Institutions?

    15.       Who shall accredit and monitor these Institutions?
    The Federal Ministry of Education shall accredit and have a seat on the board of these Institutions by virtue of the grant that will be given to accredited Institutions. All administrative policies and management of these Institutions shall be carried out by the founders of the Institutions.

    16.       How can an Organization apply for accreditation?

    By visiting the FME website at www.fme.gov.ng and submitting the necessary documents required for accreditation to the Federal Ministry of Education.

    17.       How will these Institutions be funded?

    The Federal Government will provide an initial seed grant which will strengthen the role of FME as a regulator. Seed grants will also ensure that Institutions can provide education for all students regardless of income status.

    - Innovation Enterprise Institution are technical institutions offering post-secondary education programmes leading to the award of diplomas/certificates such as the National Diploma of IEIs (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND). The products of these institutions will have entry level employment skills to function as technicians, higher technicians/technologists or professionals, depending on the level of training in their fields of specialization.
